Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana: Rise of a Legend is taking its box-office success to Hong Kong. The Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash-starrer is scheduled to release in the territory on November 12, expanding its international theatrical reach after an impressive opening weekend.
The development comes as the film inches towards the Rs 400-crore worldwide milestone, having earned an estimated Rs 375.50 crore gross in its first three days.Advance bookings for the film have opened across Hong Kong's Broadway cinema network, with screenings listed at venues including Premiere Elements, reported Sacnilk. The film will be screened in Hindi with Mandarin and English subtitles.
However, the Hong Kong release should not be confused with a mainland China release, for which no confirmed theatrical date has been announced. The Hong Kong expansion comes at an interesting time, particularly given Tiwari's previous success in the international market. His 2016 film Dangal, starring Aamir Khan, became a phenomenal success in China, eventually collecting approximately Rs 2,070 crore worldwide.
Its extraordinary performance in mainland China remains a benchmark for Indian cinema, and a potential release of Ramayana in that market could further expand its global prospects.Meanwhile, Ramayana has already made a strong impression in overseas territories. Its international gross reached an estimated Rs 157.25 crore in three days, with North America emerging as a significant contributor, alongside the UK, Australia and Europe.
Its worldwide collection currently stands at Rs 375.50 crore. At the domestic box office, Ramayana has also managed to break the pre-Diwali box-office jinx, a traditionally challenging period for theatrical releases.
After witnessing a dip on Friday, the film bounced back on Saturday, collecting Rs 69.80 crore nett in India, a 45.3 per cent jump from the previous day. It is now expected to gross Rs 500 crore by the end of its festive run worldwide. After three days, the film stands at Rs 182.70 crore nett in India with a gross collection of Rs 218.25 crore. With Hong Kong now joining its international rollout, the film will look to build on this momentum in more overseas territories.- Ends
