A 23-year-old man was beaten to death with wooden logs near Samayanallur late Sunday night following a drunken dispute.According to the Samayanallur police, the victim, identified as Suriya alias Kuttisakku, who had several pending cases against him, resided in Mahalakshmi Nagar along Thenur Road.Suriya engaged in a verbal altercation with the fourth accused, Ajay, and his friends while under the influence of alcohol at around 11.30 p.m. near the old village panchayat office.The confrontation escalated when the suspects verbally abused and assaulted Suriya, eventually striking him on the head with wooden logs, resulting in fatal injuries.The victim’s wife, Jancy, 23, lodged a formal complaint, prompting the Samayanallur police to register a murder case. The victim’s body was shifted to the Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai for a post-mortem.Senior police officials rushed sniffer dogs, fingerprint experts, and forensic specialists to the crime scene to gather evidence.On the orders of Madurai District Superintendent of Police Devanathan and the leadership of the Samayanallur Sub-Division Deputy Superintendent of Police, three special teams were formed.
Investigators reviewed CCTV footage from surrounding areas to track down the perpetrators.The special teams identified and apprehended five suspects - S. Ajay, 26, D.

Ashwin, 23, and Chandru, 20. The arrested were remanded in judicial custody.
