A 25-year-old man died following an alleged assault by relatives after he allegedly broke into a house in Keelakarai with malicious intent and attacked two women on Saturday evening. Police have registered a murder case and arrested five individuals.According to the police, the incident occurred around evening at a residence in Keelakarai.
Rizwan Ashiq Rahman from Keelakarai East Street entered the house where Syed Ali Fathima, 40, and Anees Fathima, 42, were present.He attempted to misbehave and also physically assaulted both the women.When the women raised an alarm, their relatives rushed to the spot, overpowered Rahman, assaulted him, tied him up, and alerted the police.Police personnel rescued Rahman, who had sustained blunt internal injuries to his body and head, and admitted him to the Government Medical College Hospital in Ramanathapuram. However, he succumbed to his injuries early on Sunday morning.Following his death, police altered the case to a murder charge and arrested Sini Hameed, 45, Khaja Mohideen, 42, Ameer Abdullah, 41, Mohamed Adil, 27, and one other individual.All five arrested persons have been remanded in judicial custody.
