Minister for Social Justice Vanni Arasu remarked that it remains a tragedy for indigenous people to plead for house-site pattas even 80 years post-independence.Speaking to press here on Tuesday, he highlighted the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government’s commitment to resolving such long-standing issues. He dismissed Opposition claims that the Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s welfare initiatives were politically motivated by upcoming elections, asserting that the administration’s outreach was driven by a genuine commitment to public welfare. He criticised the BJP for preserving century-old caste oppression and Sanatana structures.Refuting allegations of the TVK maintaining a nexus with the BJP, the Minister highlighted his party’s legislative resistance to Central policies. He recalled that when central directives favoured Vande Mataram, the TVK government stood firm on prioritising the Tamil Thai Vazhthu.

He also pointed to the government’s swift opposition to controversial central enactments like the Waqf Board Amendment Act and the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA).Drawing a political parallel, he asked whether the DMK could be labelled as allied with the BJP merely for opting out of recent SIR protests despite its past participation within the INDIA bloc.
