The Nadakkavu Overbridge Action Council has urged the authorities to temporarily open the Akathethara-Nadakkavu overbridge for light vehicles and pedestrians ahead of the Kalpathy car festival. The council said nearly 95% of the construction work had been completed, with only the installation of safety railings for pedestrians remaining.
Keeping the bridge closed during the festival would cause inconvenience to local residents and motorists, it said. The council demanded that the bridge be opened temporarily after making the necessary safety arrangements and traffic regulations, without waiting for the remaining work to be completed. It said petitions had been submitted to the Chief Minister and the District Collector seeking action. The council also called for speed breakers to be installed on both sides of the bridge to reduce the risk of accidents when it opens to traffic.Convener K.
Sivarajesh, general secretary K.A. Ramakrishnan and patrons M.V.
Ramachandran Nair and M. Sivanarayanan attended the press conference.
