New Delhi: Maruti Suzuki's popular compact sedan, the Dzire, has officially crossed the 35 lakh cumulative production milestone in India, achieving the feat roughly 19 years after its debut in 2008. With this accomplishment, the model becomes the fourth vehicle in Maruti Suzuki's lineup to hit the 35-lakh production mark, following the Alto, Swift, and WagonR.
The vehicle reached the milestone in approximately 18 years and nine months. Production for the sedan takes place at Maruti Suzuki's Manesar manufacturing facility, positioning the model as a strong performer across both domestic and international markets.
Production figures show steady acceleration over the years. The Dzire reached its initial 10 lakh production mark in April 2015, advanced to 20 lakh units by June 2019, and crossed 30 lakh units in December 2024. While the first 10 lakh vehicles required over seven years to manufacture, the most recent 10 lakh units were completed in just four years and four months, highlighting accelerated and sustained demand for the car.
Maruti Suzuki Managing Director and CEO Hisashi Takeuchi noted that the milestone demonstrates enduring customer trust across four generations of the vehicle. He credited the sedan's longevity to its ability to adapt to changing consumer preferences while maintaining its core attributes of comfort, style, and practicality. The company cites the Dzire as India's highest-selling passenger vehicle, and the model holds the distinction of being the first sedan to achieve a 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating. Additionally, the car ranked among Maruti Suzuki's top five export models during the previous financial year.
The current fourth-generation version of the Dzire debuted in November 2024, introducing a refreshed exterior aesthetic, upgraded dual-tone cabin interiors, and several advanced technologies. Maruti Suzuki also expanded the lineup with an automatic S-CNG variant, promoted as India's most fuel-efficient sedan with a rated mileage of 36.47km/kg. Driven by these steady updates and consistent performance, the Dzire has maintained leadership in the country's sedan segment for 19 consecutive years.
