Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming film King is already driving massive financial figures well ahead of its theatrical debut. Industry tracking data indicates that the Siddharth Anand directorial has accumulated an impressive Rs 665 crore via global pre-release agreements, cementing its status as one of the most lucrative commercial propositions in modern Bollywood.
The project has locked down profitable contracts encompassing domestic and international distribution, digital streaming, television satellite, and music licensing ahead of its scheduled December release. Excitement surrounding the venture accelerated when Shah Rukh celebrated his birthday by dropping the film's debut track, officially launching a promotional rollout roughly seven weeks prior to its theatrical premiere on December 24, 2026. The movie serves as the actor's highly anticipated return to the silver screen following a gap of over three years.
A substantial portion of the Rs 665 crore windfall stems from theatrical distribution agreements. International rights have reportedly been secured by Phars Films via a minimum guarantee worth Rs 175 crore, marking the largest overseas minimum guarantee ever recorded for an Indian feature, easily surpassing previous peaks of Rs 100 crore.
Domestically, theatrical rights have been acquired by Pen Marudhar for an estimated Rs 250 crore. Meanwhile, non-theatrical partnerships have further bolstered the total pre-release revenue. Netflix has reportedly picked up the digital streaming rights for Rs 150 crore, while television broadcasting and music catalog rights have brought in Rs 25 crore and Rs 65 crore respectively. Notably, the streaming agreement features a box office performance clause, meaning the final payout to the studio could fluctuate based on the movie's theatrical box office run.
Underpinning these massive earnings is a production scale that has expanded significantly over time. Originally budgeted near Rs 200 crore, current estimates place production expenditures closer to Rs 400 crore. This figure accounts for the director's fee but excludes the leading man's acting remuneration. When factoring in the star's notional fees and an estimated Rs 40 crore earmarked for marketing and distribution expenses, total investments may approach the Rs 500 crore threshold, meaning the film will likely need around Rs 800 crore globally to achieve complete profitability.
King reunites Shah Rukh Khan and filmmaker Siddharth Anand following their collaboration on the 2023 blockbuster Pathaan. Furthermore, the movie features the actor's first shared screen appearance with his daughter, Suhana Khan, alongside prominent supporting performances from Deepika Padukone, Rani Mukerji, and Abhishek Bachchan.
