Ragesh The Regional Science Centre and Planetarium in Kozhikode on Friday (November 6) opened its newly revamped ‘Fun Science Gallery’ to the public.Spanning an area of 900 sq ft, the updated facility features 34 interactive exhibits designed to combine education with entertainment.

The gallery is aimed at making complex scientific concepts accessible, engaging, and enjoyable for visitors of all age groups. The revamped hall allows visitors to explore real-world scientific principles through hands-on participation. The exhibits cover a broad spectrum of disciplines, including electromagnetism, optics, mathematics, pressure, momentum, and acoustics.Visitors can suspend a ball mid-air using airflow, illustrating the forces that enable aircraft flight.

Another exhibit demonstrates the curious phenomenon that while light allows us to see objects, light itself remains invisible. Hands-on displays showcase the resistance of magnetic forces, momentum transfer between colliding balls, and chaotic, non-repeating pendulum movements that create rhythmic visual patterns.Features include a digital skeleton that mirrors visitor movements, alongside a gesture-controlled system that allows users to solve image puzzles with simple hand movements.

Visitors can test their brain and body reaction times to external stimuli, as well as interact with heat-sensitive colour particles that reveal vivid patterns upon contact with fingerprints.P. Raveendran, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calicut, inaugurated the gallery.
