According to the police, Mr.

Nihad had shared nude images of some of his former friends on social media following a fallout with them. Investigators maintained that the charges against the accused were legally sustainable.

Throughout the controversy, however, Thoppi has maintained that he had been "betrayed" by his former friends. The case stemmed from a complaint filed by lawyer Sreejith Perumana, who sought an investigation into a series of allegations exchanged among members of the YouTuber’s former group after they parted ways earlier this year over disputes related to revenue sharing and live streaming activities. Following the complaint, the State Police Chief ordered a probe into allegations that included sexual abuse of minors, drug use and obscenity.Anticipatory bailAs part of the investigation, the police approached YouTube and secured the takedown of the channel concerned.

After Mr. Nihad allegedly failed to appear for questioning, the police issued a lookout circular against him.

He later obtained anticipatory bail from the Kerala High Court.Earlier, the Kochi City Cyber police and the Kalamassery police had conducted preliminary inquiries into the complaint but reportedly did not register cases after finding that the alleged offences did not fall within their territorial jurisdictions. The Ernakulam Rural Police subsequently took up the matter on the grounds that the alleged streaming of obscene content had taken place from Varapuzha, where the accused was residing at the time.Meanwhile, Mr.

Perumana alleged that the investigation had not adequately addressed other offences mentioned in his complaint, including alleged sexual abuse of minors and drug use. In a social media post, he had said he would approach a Magistrate court seeking the inclusion of relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in the FIR.
