The car involved in an accident that claimed three lives at Nedumbassery in Ernakulam district, Kerala The Kerala High Court on Friday (November 6, 2026) granted bail to the four accused in the Nedumbassery luxury car accident that led to the death of three two-wheeler riders.Justice Kauser Edappagath allowed the bail applications of the four accused, considering that they were in their early twenties, the lack of criminal history, and the time already spent in custody. Suhail Sajeev, the first accused, would be released on November 16, to enable the investigating agency to wrap up its procedures.

Director General of Prosecution T. Asaf Ali had sought further detention to recover digital evidence about the circulation of videos concerning the incident on social media.

The other three would be released at the earliest.Purely accidental: accusedThe first accused contended that the incident was purely accidental and that he could not be charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder since he did not have the intention or knowledge required by law. The other accused stated that they were only passengers and could not be accused of this offence either.

The DGP contended that the first three accused had consumed alcohol prior to the incident from three bars and drove the vehicle at high speed, knowing that it could endanger human life. The vehicle had struck the scooter, which was riding on the extreme left side of the road, the DGP said.

Victim’s kin’s takeThe family of one of the deceased contended that the first accused, the son of a businessperson, had “the audacity to say that his father would take care of everything as his family was influential”. Granting bail to such a person would send a wrong signal to society, he argued.

The court opined that “the remark could never be justified and should be deprecated”. Around 1.45 a.m. on October 11, the car driven by Sajeev crashed into a two-wheeler on Airport Road near Athani, claiming the lives of Gopika, Devika, and Iyas.

The other accused – Ninav, Joyal S. Anto and Ameen Shah – were in the car with Sajeev during the incident.

All four were charged under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for rash and negligent driving, culpable homicide not amounting to murder, and abetment with a common intention. Published - November 06, 2026 09:05 pm IST
