New Delhi: India-Russia relations have proven resilient against shifts in international geopolitics and remain impervious to external influences, according to Russian Embassy spokesperson Petr Sizov. Addressing participants during a Russian cultural program at the India Habitat Centre on Monday evening, Sizov emphasized that bilateral ties extend far beyond conventional diplomatic frameworks, drawing strength from centuries of grassroots interaction and mutual friendship.
Sizov noted that the bond between the two nations is anchored in deep historical roots, referencing the historical correspondence between Mahatma Gandhi and Russian author Leo Tolstoy. Although the two figures never met in person, Gandhi regarded Tolstoy as a mentor, which Sizov highlighted as an enduring symbol of the deep connections between the peoples of both nations. He also pointed to the historic and ongoing popularity of Indian cinema within Russia, alongside the appreciation for Russian ballet in India, as foundational elements of bilateral cultural exchange.
As the two countries approach the 80th anniversary of the establishment of formal diplomatic relations, Moscow plans to roll out a series of musical, artistic, and cultural events across India. Diana Alipova, the wife of Russian Ambassador to India Denis Alipov, underscored the significance of cultural diplomacy in fostering direct bonds between citizens rather than limiting relations strictly to governmental interactions.
Alipova explained that cultural initiatives create face-to-face connections that resonate directly with the public. She noted that ongoing efforts include introducing younger generations in India to Russian culture via live performances, alongside active collaboration with schools in Delhi to boost engagement in bilateral cultural programs.
The cultural gathering featured performances by the Joint Choir of the Holy Trinity-St Sergius Lavra and the Moscow Theological Academy, delivering traditional folk tunes and Russian sacred choral music as part of the broader Russia Culture Days initiative. Organizers highlighted that these ongoing exchanges are designed to reinforce people-to-people connections, serving as a pillar for the longstanding partnership between the two nations.
