The Corporation grounds near Salem New Bus Stand will operate as a temporary bus stand to clear the rush during the Deepavali festival.During the recent council meeting held at the Salem Corporation office, many councillors pointed out that the space on the New Bus Stand premises was occupied by shopkeepers due to which passengers are affected.
Likewise, the councillors pointed out the park in the bus stand locality was occupied by hotels and Soormangalam zonal officials were also helping the encroachers.Following these allegations, Salem Corporation Commissioner Lalitaditya Neelam inspected the New Bus Stand twice in the past one week. During these inspections, the Commissioner found the allegations true and instructed the removal of the hotels encroaching the park, commercial complex and share auto stand.
The Commissioner also found shops encroaching on more space than the permitted level. These encroachments were also removed. The Commissioner also asked the police to remove the vehicles parked near the Pallapatti police station, which were seized in connection with various cases.
Likewise, the Commissioner instructed the officials to impose fine on two-wheelers and four-wheelers entering the bus stand premises. To handle more passengers and clear the extra rush during Deepavali holidays, the Salem Corporation did not allow temporary firecracker shops this year at the Corporation grounds near the bus stand. Last year, more than a dozen temporary cracker shops functioned during the festival.
Now, based on the instructions from Transport Minister A. Vijay Tamilan Parthiban, the TNSTC Salem Division announced that for the benefit of passengers, the buses heading to Chennai on November 9 and 10 will be operated at a temporary bus stand.
