Ongoing technical and administrative confusion surrounding Aadhaar renewals and error corrections has forced school students and parents to endure severe hardship, frequently wandering between crowded enrolment centres to rectify documentation errors.Serving as a crucial identity document for Indian citizens, the Aadhaar card has been made mandatory for a wide array of services, including opening bank accounts, obtaining PAN cards, driving licenses, and accessing ration cards. With Aadhaar centres operating across nationalised banks, post offices, collectorates, taluk offices, local bodies, and authorised private centres—charging fees ranging from ₹50 to ₹100 for enrolments, photo changes, biometric updates, and details corrections—demand has surged. The Aadhaar authority mandates that adults renew their cards once every decade, while children enrolled under the age of five must undergo mandatory updates upon crossing five years.Additionally, strict deadlines imposed by schools for students to fix discrepancies have driven massive daily crowds of parents and children to these centres.Despite submitting required documents, applicants reported that error-correction applications are frequently rejected and biometric captures often fail, leading to wasted time and financial strain.Affected individuals have voiced frustration over the arbitrary rejection of valid supporting documents. While birth certificates, school ID cards, and mark sheets are submitted to correct details such as parents’ initials, public reported that documents accepted in one instance are arbitrarily rejected in another, creating widespread confusion over valid proofs.Similarly, adults noted that government-issued PAN cards are sometimes turned down as proof, forcing multiple reapplications with waiting periods of one to two weeks per attempt.Parents pointed out that students are repeatedly forced to take leave from school to visit centres, and processing fees must be paid anew with every re-submission.Complaints directed to the 1947 helpline have allegedly yielded no proper response, prompting calls for the Aadhaar application process to be simplified or for a dedicated official to be appointed at the district level to oversee and streamline operations.Meanwhile, Aadhaar centre staff said that applications are occasionally rejected even when correct documents are furnished, creating a tense environment where staff face public backlash for systemic processing failures beyond their control.
