The dog ran to the platform and into the women’s coach, with the staff in pursuit. Around 7.30 p.m. on Thursday, when hundreds of people were rushing home on the Metro train, an unexpected four-legged commuter joined them for a ride.At Anna Nagar Tower Metro station, a dog entered through the exit staircase, slipped under the ticketing gates, and made its way onto the platform, even as the staff chased it.Just as the dog reached the platform, a train entered the station, and it quickly slipped into the women’s coach.
The passengers were surprised to see this four-legged commuter.Meanwhile, the staff had followed the animal into the train, but they could not get the dog out before the train started, sources said. “The staff travelled along with the dog. But the animal did not disturb any of the passengers,” a source said. The dog was brought out of the train at Koyambedu Metro Rail station.
The station after Anna Nagar Tower is Tirumangalam, which is an underground station. As it would have been challenging to get the dog out of an underground station, the staff decided to wait till the train reached Koyambedu, an elevated station, where they helped the animal exit the train safely.Rescue servicesBy this time, the Fire and Rescue services, on being alerted by the Metro Rail authorities, arrived at Koyambedu, and got the dog out of the station.“Sometimes, dogs are present at the access point of some stations, such as Anna Nagar Tower, Anna Nagar East, and High Court Metro Rail stations.
While security guards are present at the entry point of each station, the exit points are not usually manned by these personnel. This is the reason the animal managed to enter through the exit point and reached the platform,” another source said.
