Hundreds of volunteers recently gathered to assemble food parcels intended for Birmingham residents who are facing difficulties due to increasing living expenses. Approximately 300 participants attended the Diwali Basket Brigade event, hosted at the RSRS Centre in Hockley and coordinated by The Diwali Foundation.

This marks the ninth consecutive year that the charity has united community members from diverse backgrounds to prepare the festive hampers ahead of the religious holiday. Deepak Parekh, the founder of the project, noted that financial pressures remain high while emphasizing that the festival symbolizes light triumphing over darkness, offering a way to introduce hope to struggling families.

Based in Herefordshire, The Diwali Foundation reports that over twelve percent of households across the UK currently face food poverty. The organization collaborates with roughly forty distinct charities and food banks to distribute the packages to those who need them most.

To date, the charitable foundation has supplied approximately 23,470 food hampers to individuals experiencing hardship.
