Families across Nepal have begun holding symbolic funeral rites as rescue operations press forward to locate survivors and recover the bodies of the missing. The disaster has resulted in a confirmed death toll of at least 1,100 people, while more than 3,900 others remain unaccounted for, including numerous workers stationed inside hydropower tunneling projects.
International aid has begun flowing into the affected region to support emergency response efforts. Preliminary estimates indicate that total reconstruction and recovery expenses could reach up to five billion dollars as the country begins assessing the long-term impact of the catastrophe.
