Video evidence transformed an apparent accident into an attempted murder prosecution. The incident took place September 13.Gurugram,Nov 3, 2026 23:11 ISTPolice have filed a charge sheet against two men on charges of attempted murder and other offences for allegedly deliberately ramming a car into a motorcycle ridden by a woman on September 13, news agency Press Trust of India reported. The charge sheet was filed against Kalyan Baisla and Lavnish in a Gurugram court, which took note of it on Monday, officials said on Tuesday. The incident was recorded by a helmet-mounted camera worn by the motorcyclist, Shivani Chauhan, and a camera belonging to another rider.

It sparked outrage after she shared the video on social media.Shivani, also known as Siya, is a 27-year-old resident of Kalkaji in Delhi. She was travelling with friends from Golf Course Road towards Extension Road when the accused, who were in a white car, allegedly followed the group and made obscene gestures.

The car then allegedly rammed her motorcycle from the side before fleeing. The impact knocked her off the motorcycle and sent her skidding on the road. After his arrest, Kalyan admitted that the collision was his fault but denied hitting Shivani deliberately.

He claimed that he had "lost control near a U-turn". However, a Special Investigation Team report concluded that "this was not an accident, but a calculated, intentional act".A senior investigating officer told PTI that police examined CCTV footage from more than 15 locations and included it in the charge sheet."This includes footage from GMDA and DLF cameras, as well as footage from a dashcam mounted on the complainant (female biker) and from a camera belonging to a club," the officer said. There were four people in the car, with Kalyan and his cousin Lavnish seated in the front.

Police booked the accused under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita relating to physical and digital stalking, insulting the modesty of a woman, attempted murder and common intention.Police Commissioner Sibash Kaviraj formed the special investigation team after receiving a notice from the Haryana Commission for Women.Gurugram Police arrested Kalyan and Lavnish from Rajgarh in Rajasthan's Dausa district on September 15. Both are lodged in Bhondsi Jail in Gurugram after their bail pleas were rejected."Initially, this incident appeared to be a routine accident, but the footage and facts that emerged during the investigation changed the entire narrative.

The footage clearly shows that the collision was not accidental, but deliberate. Based on other evidence gathered during the investigation, the police also invoked relevant legal provisions in the case," a senior police officer told PTI.The two men, who remain in jail after being denied bail, now face charges including attempted murder after investigators concluded that the collision was deliberate and submitted footage and other evidence to the court.- Ends
