West Bengal Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari has alleged that thousands of crores of rupees in state revenue were diverted to Trinamool Congress (TMC) party offices instead of being deposited in the government treasury. His remarks came after crores of rupees were reportedly recovered from a TMC office in Diamond Harbour.Adhikari claimed that the police had gathered evidence of the alleged diversion and warned that those responsible would face strict action at the appropriate time.Citing revenue figures, the Chief Minister said the state collected Rs 37,281 crore between April 1 and October 31, 2024, nearly Rs 4,000 crore more than the usual collection for the corresponding period."Not a single new stone or sand mine has been auctioned in the state.
Then how did this additional revenue get collected? If such a huge amount has been collected in just six months, the additional amount could reach Rs 7,000-8,000 crore over 12 months.
Going by this calculation, there was an additional collection of around Rs 4,000 crore last year as well," he said. Questioning where the additional money went, Adhikari alleged that it had reached an individual entrusted with collecting funds for the family of the former Chief Minister and his associates."This stolen revenue has been sent abroad," he alleged.ADHIKARI WARNS HUMAYUN KABIR OBER BABUR-NAMED MOSQUE In a separate remark, Adhikari appealed to Humayun Kabir not to construct a mosque in the name of Mughal emperor Babur. He warned that a mosque bearing Babur's name would neither receive planning approval nor permission for construction. The Chief Minister also cautioned Kabir against his reported plan to block a national highway on December 6, warning that any attempt to disrupt traffic would have consequences.- Ends
