Congo Ebola crisis worsens: Over 320 cases reported, global vaccine race begins - India Today

A severe outbreak of the Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus is rapidly spreading across the Democratic Republic of Congo and neighbouring Uganda, with over three hundred and twenty confirmed cases and numerous fatalities reported. The Congolese government is actively delivering vital medical supplies to affected regions while protecting healthcare workers. In response to the escalating health crisis, global efforts to develop an effective vaccine have accelerated. Three major scientific groups are currently working on potential vaccines, including a collaboration involving the Serum Institute of India for rapid manufacturing. While the outbreak poses a significant threat to the African region and carries severe economic implications, it is not currently classified as an immediate airborne threat to India. The Indian government has already dispatched relief materials to assist the affected African nations. Health authorities emphasize the critical need for international support to contain the virus and prevent further regional devastation.
